Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. A photo snapped last Friday became instantly iconic: 5 WV coal miners pushing an electric vehicle from Washington, DC, that had run out of juice near the mine. You see, electric vehicles from DC may be powered by electricity, but they are charged with coal. Electricity does not just magically appear in our residential outlets, it must be generated. For now, renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and water are unable to produce the amount of energy we need. Perhaps as science and technology advances, renewables will improve; until then, electric vehicles really run on either coal or natural gas. I am not opposed to electric vehicles and would even own one if the opportunity arose; however, I would not drive that vehicle under the delusion that I am somehow saving the planet. I would also not drive that vehicle on a long trip–particularly into the backwoods of WV! Humans are constantly looking for new sources of energy, but what power Creation? The sun burns, the earth rotates, the winds blow, the waters wave, and these never need recharging. Scientists speculate that the sun will burn out in 5 billion years which will really hamper our vacation trips to the beach. Where does Creation get it power? From the Creator Who has all power. Colossians 1:17 states that Jesus keeps it all going with these words, “And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.”
