Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Did you hear about last Saturday’s home burglar up in Montgomery County? Perhaps inspired by the recent Christmas season, he decided to rob a house Santa-style: by using the chimney. Authorities aren’t sure whether the burglar was entering or exiting, but they all agree that he got stuck either coming or going. At first, the homeowners heard strange noises while they were enjoying a fire and watching a movie, so they called the police. When the police arrived, the noises stopped. After the police left, the noises resumed. The perp was eventually found in the chimney, and bricks were removed one by one by firefighters to extricate him. Consequently, the homeowners now have a huge hole above their fireplace that they can no longer use. The burglar was taken to the hospital and is physically fine; however, it is obvious to me that he has a spiritual problem: thieves need Jesus just like everyone else does. If this thief doesn’t repent and receive Christ, enduring a family fire while being stuck in the chimney is merely the warm-up act. This burglar, along with all other unbelievers, will spend eternity in a lake a fire with no possible rescue. Revelation 14:11 puts it like this, “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever, and they have no rest day or night…”
