Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Did you hear about the dog in England who got trapped in a mudflat? Mudflats are dangerous, because once stuck in a mudflat, you may not be able to get out—especially when the tide comes in. If one’s steps are carefully placed, one can walk safely out of a mudflat. This dog was not aware of where she should step to avoid sinking, but someone flying a drone overhead did know. So how did the drone get the dog to step in the right places? By dangling a sausage in front of the dog. The dog followed the dangling sausage to safety. In the Garden of Eden, the serpent did not tempt Adam and Eve by dangling fruit, but rather by dangling pride before them. Why would Adam and Eve care about a single piece of fruit when they could have as much of the garden’s other fruit as they wanted? The serpent told the first couple in Genesis 3:5 that when they ate the fruit, “your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as gods knowing good and evil.” In that one act, Adam & Eve rejected their Creator and Sustainer to become their own gods. They did not become as gods but lost their god-like characteristic: eternal life. Adam and Eve would eventually die and would pass that fate on to the rest of their progeny. God warned those two about death, and He reminds us today in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death…”; but remember the rest of that same verse, “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ Our Lord.”
