God’s Grace with Gary 12/31/21

Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. It’s another New Year’s Eve, and you already know what will happen shortly before midnight tonight: a giant ball made of Waterford crystal will drop in Times Square, New York, to welcome in 2022. That crystal ball is not the only thing that will be dropping; in fact, different cities have different droppings, if you will. Tallapoosa, GA, will drop a taxidermied opossum named Spencer; Plymouth, WI, will drop a huge wedge of cheese; Eastover, NC, will drop a 30 pound ceramic flea named Jasper; Boise, ID, will drop a car-sized potato; Mount Olive, NC, will drop a massive pickle; Bethlehem, PA, will drop a 400 pound marshmallow Peep; and Atlanta, GA, will drop a giant peach. The newest drop for this year is a 55 pound human hairball named Hoss that will be dropped at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not warehouse in Orlando, FL—every cat in the world needs to watch this! What you decide to watch drop is not what really matters; what matters is what you will do with the new year. The new year is only a date on the calendar; in fact, many cultures celebrate the new year later in the year: The Chinese and Koreans in February and the Jews in September. Even so, the symbolism of starting over a new year thus making changes to accommodate it is good. I challenge you to take the opportunity of this new year to commit to honor and serve The Lord Jesus Christ every day in it starting with reading the Bible and praying every day and attending worship weekly; doing so will not just change your year, it will change your life!
