Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. The Moon is our nearest celestial neighbor and is very important to the stability and functionality of the earth. God placed the moon precisely where it is to do what it does. Full moons occur every 29 1/2 days, but were you aware that each full moon has a different name? January’s full moon is called the “Wolf Moon”; February’s, the “Snow Moon”; March’s, the “Worm Moon”; April’s, the “Pink Moon”; May’s, the “Flower Moon”; June’s, the “Strawberry Moon”; July’s, “the “Buck Moon”; August’s, the “Sturgeon Moon”; September’s the “Harvest Moon”; October’s, the “Hunter’s Moon”; November’s, the “Beaver Moon”; and December’s, the “Cold Moon.” These are facts that every selenophile knows; wait, you don’t know what a selenophile is? A selenophile is one who loves the moon. Anyway, from where did all these full moon names come? American Indians tracked time by full moons, so they named each one for a predominant natural occurrence. God says in Genesis 1:16 that He created the moon “…to rule the night”; however, God never intended people to worship the moon. Even so, people have worshiped the sun, moon, and stars throughout history—including the Israelites! In our eternal home, we will no longer need the moon; Revelation 21:23 states, “And the city had no need of the sun neither of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”
