God’s Grace with Gary (4/7/22)

Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Tuesday, November 10, 2020. “The loss of mystery has led to the loss of majesty. The more we know, the less we believe.” So begins a paragraph from Max Lacado. Before the scientific revolution, people attributed everything to God: the sunrise, ocean waves, storms, life; however, since the intervention of science into every aspect of our lives, our tendency is to look to science—and not to God—for explanation and satisfaction. We all suffer from this; for instance, if you have a headache, you don’t go into your prayer closet, you open your medicine cabinet and swallow a pill. The point is, the more we know scientifically, the more we should be in awe of God—not less. God is the creator of all—including the raw materials that are used to harness creation and develop medication. Not only that, but the ability of mankind to study, build, and formulate has come from God and is directly related to being made in the image of God. We are amazed at our ships but not the water on which they float. We are amazed at the Christmas light show but not the electricity upon which it relies. We are amazed at rocket ships but not the planets and stars to which they travel. We can easily fall into the trap of worshiping the creation rather than the Creator—especially when the aspect of creation we are worshipping happens to be us. The more we understand about creation, the more we should appreciate the Creator. Psalm 19:1 reminds us that, “The heavens declare the glory of God…” and Isaiah 6:3 reminds us that, “…the whole earth is full of His glory.”
