Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. World Population Day was this past Monday, July 11, and on that day the United Nations released its estimate of the earth’s population: 8 billion people. Now that’s a lot of people and a lot of mouths to feed. According to the report, the United States has only about 335 million people which means that virtually all of the people are not in our country, and most of the people are not even on our side of the world: China and India have over 1 billion people each. As mission-minded Christians, we could allow these statistics to overwhelm us and cause us to give up on trying to reach the world with the Gospel. Rather than focusing on 8 billion people, we need to focus on those who are saved by grace through faith by our mission efforts. Like the child who was finding stranded starfish on the beach and throwing them back in to the water. An adult told the child, “You are wasting your time, there are too many, what you are doing doesn’t matter.” The child threw another starfish into the water and said, “It matters to that one.” Until He returns, let us continue to obediently carry out Jesus’ Great Commission from Mark 16:15, “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Remember: we share, we send, but God saves.
