Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Monday, January 4, 2021. Some people aren’t happy unless they’re unhappy. A man in New York is suing the King’s Hawaiian sweet roll company because the rolls are made in California—not Hawaii. The rolls were originally made in Hawaii in the 1950’s, but the bakery relocated to California as the business grew. The man bringing the lawsuit says that the packaging on the rolls misled him into thinking that the rolls were made in Hawaii. If he likes the rolls, what difference does it make where they are made? It doesn’t. He is just one more person trying to make money on winning a frivolous lawsuit. You might say that he is hoping to earn some dough by taking the bread out of someone else’s mouth thinking that lawsuits are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Since it is a class action lawsuit, meaning he will have to share any award, the man must think that half a loaf is better than no loaf, but I hope his bread falls on the buttered side, and he loses the lawsuit; who knows? Maybe he will get to spend some time in jail eating nothing but bread and water. Rather than bringing lawsuits or gambling to potentially get money, the Bible teaches that we are to work to earn our daily bread. Our bread and butter is to come from legitimate, moral work. If you are good at investing, earn some bread then cast your bread upon the waters and see what happens, but otherwise work hard ignoring the bread and circuses of life. Ephesians 4:28 commands us, “…let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good that he may have to give to him that needeth.”
