Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Last November, NASA launched a $330 million spacecraft intended to crash into the Dimorphos asteroid at 14,000 mph. Dimorphos is 6.8 million miles away and is not on a collision course with earth, but it was used as a test of NASA’s ability to alter the deadly earthbound course of an asteroid. Dubbed DART, “Double Asteroid Redirection Test,” the vending machine-sized spacecraft careened into Dimorphos this past Monday at 7:14pm guided by mission control located in nearby Laurel , MD. The results of whether the impact actually knocked Dimorphos off course will not be known for about two months. God has given mankind the responsibility of stewardship over our planet, but He mentions nothing about saving our planet. While God wants us to take care of his Creation, He will do any necessary saving. God is in the saving business, and the greatest saving He does is of people by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. This world and its contents will be destroyed one day; II Peter 3:10 states, “…the heavens shall pass away with a great noise and the elements shall melt with fervent heat; the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” However, God desires people to not just last forever but to live forever with Him in Heaven.
