Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. On this date in history, 92 years ago, the stock market crashed on what became known as Black Tuesday. In the aftermath of Black Tuesday, the entire industrialized world spiraled into the Great Depression. The Great Depression in the United States was extended and exacerbated by governmental intervention; while most people think that the socialism enacted during the Great Depression brought us out of the depression, it was actually our military production during World War II that did so. While money may make make the world go round, the Bible warns us about the unreliability of money. Proverbs 23:5 states, “…for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.” Paul reminds us in I Timothy 6:17 not to “trust in uncertain riches.” We cannot rely on money. In the case of Black Tuesday, 14 billion dollars vanished in a single day, and by 1933, half of the banks in America had failed. Jesus, however, never fails; He is always reliable, always faithful. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.”
