Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Norway will begin construction on a new tunnel next year. While this may not sound too unusual, this tunnel will be used for large ships to pass through the mountains instead of traveling around them. This one mile tunnel will be the first and only tunnel of its kind in the world. The Norwegian seas are infamous for being rough and treacherous with strange and unpredictable currents, so this tunnel will allow ships to avoid the seas altogether. The Bible mentions a tunnel in II Kings 20:20 that King Hezekiah had built to allow water to flow into Jerusalem underground to keep invaders from cutting off the city’s water supply. The biblical passage states, “…he made a pool and a conduit and brought water into the city…” Found in ancient Scripture but discovered in 1838, the tunnel provides one more piece of evidence that the Bible is not a history book, but when it addresses history, it is accurate. There is an inscription at the point where the tunnelers from both sides met; while the inscription is very matter-of-fact, it represents the only inscription from ancient Israel which commemorates a public construction work. While Norway’s and Hezekiah’s tunnels are very different in scale and purpose, they both were designed to conduct water and both belong in mankind’s history books.
