Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Do you like to drive fast? Have you ever been pulled over by the police for speeding? A lady in Kansas on Monday was clocked driving at 149 miles per hour. When the police pulled her over, she had an excuse like most people do: she said she had just looked at her speedometer, and it said she was only going 128–not a very convincing excuse. The best excuse for speeding I have ever heard was from a man whose wife had left him for a police officer; when the police pulled this man over, he said he knew he was speeding, but he thought the police officer who took his wife was trying to give her back. Speed limits are posted for the safety of everyone in the area—not just the drivers. Since speed limits are part of man’s law, and man’s law is to be obeyed as long as it does not violate God’s laws, we are to obey. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 13:1-2, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers, for there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God…” Not only is God pleased with our obedience, but paying out money for tickets is not being a good steward of the finances that God has entrusted to us. By the way, I wonder how much a ticket is for driving 149 miles an hour?
