Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. The pandemic had a devastating impact on the airlines, but air travel is returning to normal levels; however, the Federal Aviation Administration is considering alienating half of all fliers. Here’s how: there is a proposal to begin weighing passengers prior to boarding aircraft. This will alienate half of the passengers, because men don’t care who knows how much we weigh, but weight is not something women want others to know. The reason for weighing passengers is important: Airplanes not only have weight limits, but the weight must be distributed properly to maintain the center of gravity within a certain range. I have to make weight calculations when I fly my small airplane for the same reason. For decades, the airlines have been using weight assumptions from the CDC (yes, the same people that can’t seem to explain a uniform mask policy); however, the FAA knows these assumptions are out-dated since Americans are getting heavier. Once commercial space travel is popularized, I think Americans will really want to go; after all, in space they will be weightless and, if they visit the moon, they will only weigh 1/6 of what they do on earth. Why are Americans getting heavier? Lack of exercise, fried foods, and overeating may be risk factors, but the main reason we weigh more is that God has blessed us with abundance as a nation. We have all we can eat and more as often as we want. We must be careful, though, because God will bless us right out of His favor. We can become so accustomed to our bounty, forget from Whom it has come, and walk away from God Who is the source of our abundance. Israel did it, Judah did it, and America is in the process of doing it. Remember Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…”
