Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Did you hear about the modern day Jonah story out of Massachusetts? A lobsterman was lobster diving when he felt a bump then everything went black. He thought he had been attacked by a Great White Shark; however, as he felt around, there were no teeth. He immediately realized he had been swallowed whole by a humpback whale and knew he was going to die; but, less than a minute later, the whale spit him out back into the water. Jonah was in a whale for three days and three nights as recorded in the Book of Jonah and confirmed by Jesus in Matthew 12:40. Not only did Jesus affirm the historicity of Jonah, but he used the event to prophesy His own death and resurrection stating, “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” During a children’s sermon, the preacher told how the whale vomited Jonah on dry land then asked what it proves. A little boy shouted, “It proves that even whales can’t stomach a bad preacher!” The lobsterman was not a preacher, but he did have a similar experience to Jonah—maybe whales just don’t like how people taste.
