Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Loudon County, VA, made news again. Yesterday, I shared about the godly school teacher, and today it’s cicadas. A chef in Loudon County decided to serve cicada tacos at his restaurant. One customer who ordered them later complained to the local health department that the cicadas were not sourced from a certified farm. The health department then told the chef to remove the cicada tacos from his menu. I am not aware that there are farms certified in cicada husbandry; in fact, if there were, how could they stay in business having inventory only every 17 years? The chef actually did find a certified farm in WV from which he hopes to get his cicadas. I don’t know why non-starving people would eat bugs in the first place, and then I don’t know why someone would eat them then complain about their sourcing. All I know is that cicadas are not mentioned in the Bible specifically, but they would be included in the things that the Israelites were not permitted to eat according to Leviticus 11:23, “But all other flying creepy things which have four feet shall be an abomination to you.” While eating cicadas as a New Testament Christian is fine, why would you?
