Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. This “Throwback Thursday is from Wednesday, June 17, 2020. You’ve certainly heard the phrase, “Don’t mess with Texas.” Current protesters have been signaling that they have now set their sites on the Alamo for defacement and destruction. I am a Texan, and I do not recommend attacking the Alamo for any reason. The last time the Alamo was attacked it took a 5000 man army two weeks to defeat 200 Texans. There are a lot more Texans today, none of whom will look favorably on even one finger being laid on the Alamo which we affectionately call “The Shrine of Texas liberty.” Following the Battle of the Alamo, “Remember the Alamo” became the battle cry. My advice to the protesters is not, “Remember the Alamo” but “Forget the Alamo.” The Texas Land Commissioner delivered his own message to the protesters which was, “Don’t mess with the Alamo.” As a result, local law enforcement, The Alamo Rangers, The Department of Public Safety, and the National Guard are all collaborating to protect this sacred site. Have your peaceful and respectful protests and marches, but if you decide to get destructive and/or disrespectful and include the Alamo in your actions, “Remember The Alamo” may become a new battle cry. The story of the Alamo is that an apparent defeat can result in a huge victory; The Battle of San Jacinto quickly followed the Battle of the Alamo where Texan Independence was won. Good Friday seemed an apparent defeat, but Easter Sunday quickly followed revealing the greatest victory that has ever been won: victory over sin, sickness, and death for all humanity!
