Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s Throwback Thursday is from Saturday, June 20, 2020. On this Father’s Day eve, I am reflecting on my own fatherhood. I have been a foster father, an adoptive father, a biological father, and an international exchange student father. I like being a father, and I like the fact that I will always be a father—even when all of my children are grown and gone, and even when I am gone one day. Fatherhood is not always easy, but it is always rewarding. I especially enjoy hearing my children use phrases that they learned from me some of which I learned from my father. I am a Christian father who raised my children as Christians with the hope that they would become Christians, marry Christians, and raise Christian families. While fathers are known for many things, Christian fathers should be known for their Christianity—an absolute commitment to Jesus Christ and His church. I don’t care if my children become rich and famous, but I do care if they become rich in faith and famous to God. We have a perfect Father in heaven, and the burden of earthly fatherhood is accurately portraying His love and faithfulness to our children. I will never forget when someone I know was first introduced to true Christianity learning that there was an heavenly Father—she was not interested in having a heavenly father because her heavenly father had been so misrepresented by her earthly father. Fathers have a big job and a huge responsibility. As we honor fathers tomorrow, let us worship our Father in Heaven and seek to imitate Him on earth.
